A behind-the-scenes look at the production of the 1972 film "The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds," directed by Paul Newman and starring his wife, Joanne Woodward, and their daughter, Nell Potts.

Laura, in her thirties, lives alone on the outskirts of a big city. She learns that her father is in a coma, following a serious traffic accident. She decides to visit him regularly at the hospital: the opportunity finally presents itself to settle accounts, perhaps even to take revenge... But life is unpredictable and Laura's desire for revenge will lead to a reunion troubling with her family and her past. She will come out of it reconciled, with herself and with life.

Everything happens during the course of a day. A toddler looks for his lost toy, some people look for their happiness, circling around in some kind of a lost kaleidoscope; they love and hate, suffer and enjoy, being that honest or fake, joyful or saddening. In the end, the boy finds his kaleidoscope, but the question remains if grownups have found their dreams, or at least their traces.

When Kathy’s family is threatened, she discovers that her husband has kept a chilling secret from her for years: Her teenage daughter is not really her own flesh and blood, and the past is now coming back to haunt them all in a deadly way.
